After hard work on the movie sets, Elvis came back to the stage. This recording is from August, 24 1969 in Las Vegas. It's a great show, with Elvis in a good mood and high spirits.
Elvis used to open his shows with 'Blue Suede Shoes' in 1969 and that's not different here. The 'Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel medley is very rare for this kind of shows in 1969. But it's sounding great and he has loads of fun with it! Hound Dog is very rockin' version here and James Burton's solo is really amazing here! He blows the roof off the International! What'd I Say is a Ray Charles original and I think Elvis' version is far better and powerful than the original. He even rocks more than the '63 Viva Las Vegas version. Johnny B. Goode is powerful as ever and after that the king takes a break by starting a monologue. Very much humor in this speech and it takes up to 7 minutes! Really great!
The band introduction are very funny to listen 'cause Elvis in a great mood cranks the band up! Really funny to listen to.
The last two songs are taken from the Las Vegas 3 August diner show. Or should I say: from Fort Baxter's Opening Night 1969 ?
Here we go again!
